New Years Eve – A Double Celebration

New Years Eve saw a double celebration at Hinchingbrooke House, Huntingdon.  We celebrated the New Year and also Katie and Jonathan’s Wedding, and a fantastic night it was too.

In the early planning stages I met with the bride and groom at their home to discuss the night in detail, to find out what they wanted on their special day and to give some ideas from the experience I’ve gained from the many Weddings I have worked at.

The bride and groom wanted a spectacular look to the evening disco, and asked me to provide our large 6m x 4m starcloth backdrop, along with uplighting for the bar area, and the inner hall at the house.  It was somewhat of a transformation for the room, as this was installed into the venue while the guests were enjoying the Wedding breakfast.  We finished installing all the equipment at 5.40pm, which coincided nicely with the end of the Wedding breakfast at 6.00pm.

When guests left the dining area, they were greeted with some nice background music, ready for the evening guests arrival.  At 8.30pm we had the first dance.  Jonathan and Katie were a bit unsure of wanting to dance on their own in front of all their guests, so at the  pre-event meeting I suggested they danced for a short while to their song, and then invited all of the guests onto the dance floor to join them.  We then had a great evening of dancing to a massive mix of music with everything from lots of Motown (as requested by the Bride and Groom) to Gangnam Style and everything in between.

At midnight all the guests joined in on the dance floor to welcome in the New Year, sing Auld Lang Syne and then they were invited to make their way out onto the Terrace with a glass of champagne to watch the surprise firework t 1215, the guests joined back in the room, where we finished off the evening with some great classic tunes.  We finished the night with Take That, Never Forget.

New Years Eve 2012, was a first for me, as this was the first Wedding that I have personally performed at, and it was a fantastic night and a brilliant atmosphere, which I’d very much like to have the opportunity to experience again!

A few pictures of the fireworks (one day I’ll learn how to take a photo properly).
